"Enabling technology development and deployment for mitigating human-caused global warming." Presented by: Dr. Eric Toone The production of greenhouse gases is both directly and indirectly responsible for global warming, and by now avoiding even a 2.0 C increase will require extraordinary effort. A plethora of novel technologies across all sectors that produce greenhouse gases is today being advanced towards impactful deployment. Such technologies are often supported in their earliest stages by venture capital. During the first decade of this Century cleantech investing resulted in the loss of between $25 and $50 B, with little to show for that investment by way of technology deployed at scale. Here we consider the specific challenges of CleanTech investing, ways that a current generation of CleanTech investing attempts to avoid those pitfalls, and the most intractable challenges remaining in our attempts to avoid the worst impacts of anthropogenic global warming.
