Useful Information
E-mail: You will receive your official Duke e-mail login and password when you arrive (you will be able to change your password). We encourage you to use this account, but should you change your e-mail address, please notify Amy Norfleet in the Biochemistry Graduate Studies Office (BGSO) immediately. You will need to use your Duke/OIT e-mail in order to register for classes online.
Campus Mail: While you are participating in lab rotations during your first year, your mail can be picked up in Room 252 Nanaline Duke. There are mailboxes located in the outer office area, across from the small photocopier. Please check your box regularly. The mailing address is:
Department of Biochemistry
252 Nanaline H. Duke Building
Box 3711 DUMC
Durham, NC 27710
Fax: The Reading Room (Room 251) has a fax machine available at all times (919.681.5851). In addition, the departmental office (room 255) has a fax machine available during office hours (919.684.8885).
Phone: In addition to the phones in your lab, there is a phone in the Reading Room (Room 251) that you may use for local calls (684.2502).
Computers: Computers are located in the Reading Room (Room 251) for your use. You may use any of the computers, but.please be considerate of others waiting to access the computers. These computers require a password for use so please see Amy Norfleet for the password.
Photocopiers: You will be given a personal code for the photocopiers on the 2nd floor of Nanaline Duke when you arrive. Please note that the smaller copier (Room 252) is the primary copier for students. The larger copier in the hall is for administrative (i.e. secretarial) use. The department has entered your code in both machines in case the smaller one is broken or very busy. Use your discretion if you must use the larger machine and give the “right of way” to faculty and administrative staff.
You have a total/limit of 1,500 free copies from now through May 31, 2006 (approximately 150 copies per month). Do not use your code to make copies for other students because you will be responsible for paying for any additional copies over the 1,500 limit. Also, be sure to clear your code from the copier when you are finished using it (so someone else will not come behind you and make copies on your code).
