Financial Support

All graduate students in the Biochemistry Department receive financial aid. Currently (2006-2007), the stipend is $25,000/year plus tuition and fees. These awards are for 12 months and permit full-time graduate study. Exceptional students are nominated for special fellowships, which provide stipends up to $29,000 a year plus tuition and fees. Satisfactory progress toward the Ph.D. degree is required for annual renewal of these awards.

External Funding

During your first year of Graduate School, you may want to apply for certain prestigious fellowships offered by sources outside of Duke. The two most sought-after fellowships are the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowship. You may follow the links below and/or talk to Dr. Spicer for more information regarding these fellowships.
