Overview
Research
Scientists in the Duke Biochemistry Department study a broad spectrum of research topics, including the following areas:

• DNA biochemistry, including DNA replication, repair and recombination, gene structure, and regulation of gene expression

• RNA biochemistry, including ribozyme mechanisms and structural bioinformatics of RNA

• Lipids, lipoproteins, membrane transport, structure and function, including lipid A biology, vesicle biology, trafficking, genetic and biochemical mechanisms governing the dynamic state of membranes, and ion channels

 • Protein structural biochemistry and biophysics, including molecular structure, interactions, dynamics, folding, engineering, and design

• Mechanisms of signal transduction, including receptor biology, secondary signaling molecules, and protein prenylation

• Enzyme catalysis and regulation, including studies of many specific enzymes identified in the areas above
